Leaders aren’t born, they’re built. Develop your skills and participate in a leadership program, be an active leader within your residence hall or advocate for issues affecting all Stout students.

BOLD Project: Building Opportunities for Leadership Development provides workshops and programs for emerging to experienced leaders.

Residence Hall Association: Stout’s student-run government for the residence halls delegates money, hosts events, communicates ideas and develops leaders.

Stout Student Association (SSA): Advocate for issues affecting all students on campus and run for a Senator or Director position.

Giving back to the community is important and Stout has many ways to help you make a difference. Check out various short or long term volunteer opportunities, go by yourself or start a volunteer team with a few friends, or take part in experiential learning through one of your courses for credit. You can also connect with a group of students who are dedicated to service through a student organization. All of these options provide significant learning experiences for students through meaningful service activities that benefit the community.

Stoutreach: Stoutreach is the campus volunteer program coordinated by Ally Initiatives in the Involvement Center. There are currently over 30 local agencies and opportunities waiting to meet you and seeking your help!

There are a number of organizations that will enhance your academic experience. Getting more involved within your academics often leads to better relationships with classmates and faculty, invaluable networking opportunities and a wider perspective of issues and trends related to your major.

Honors College: Honors College is an academic program with required courses, colloquia, and co-curricular activities.  Students are invited to join based on GPA and ranking or must apply for membership.  Honors College students enjoy a variety of enhanced learning opportunities including the option of living in dedicated Honors housing.

Explore the performing arts on our campus through theatre, band, choir and dance. These groups provide a creative outlet to students that have enjoyed and developed skills in performing arts and wish to further refine and explore their artistic talents. The band choir and theatre programs are part of academic offerings at Stout, taught by full-time faculty members. The performing arts draw people together and allow them to relate in meaningful and enduring ways.

Sign up for a Find Your Fit Session: Meet one-on-one with a student Involvement Specialist to discuss your interests, set goals and explore opportunities to get involved. Together, we can find the very best fit for you! Follow the link to sign up for a session.

Attend a Campus Event: There is always something going on around campus. Whether it’s a student org event, a Casino Night hosted by the Involvement Center or a fitness class at University Recreation, attending a campus event might just help you find your one! Start a New Organization: Do you have an interest in something and don’t see a related student organization? Students are always starting up new organizations! The Stout Student Assocation reviews and approves all requests for new student organizations. If you’re interested in bringing a certain interest to UW-Stout, visit the student org website for information on the requirements and process online today!
